Stoney Cross Garage offer Class 4 MOT tests to customers in Derby and surrounding areas, including Borrowash and Ockbrook. We have three MOT test technicians, all audited and trained by Protech, and each have more than 20 years’ experience.

A Class 4 MOT test is the standard test for most cars and vehicles with up to 8 passenger seats. This includes taxis, private hire cars, ambulances, motorhomes, campervans, and most light commercial vehicles (up to 3t).

If your vehicle is 3 years old or older, it must, by law, have an annual MOT test to be driven on UK roads. The test ensures your vehicle meets the minimum requirements for roadworthiness and environmental standards.

Where Can I Get My Car's MOT Test Done?

Our ATL (automated testing lane) and its associated equipment are calibrated every six months to ensure pinpoint accuracy throughout all MOT tests, and we have been a GREEN (RAG rating) MOT testing station since 2008.

When an MOT test is in progress, the tester cannot be disturbed or interrupted, but you can watch the test being carried out from our viewing area. When the test is started our technician will log your vehicle on with the DVSA and at that point, the test must commence and not be interrupted.

A Class 4 MOT test usually takes an hour to complete and once the tester has finished, he will inform you of whether your vehicle has passed or failed. If your car or van has passed its MOT test there may be some areas or items which are noted as “advisories”. This means that, while not serious enough to cause a failed test, they are items or areas that require attention. Stoney Cross Garage can carry out this remedial work once the test is complete if you would like us to.

If your vehicle has failed its MOT test, then whatever fault led to the failed test will need to be rectified and then a retest must be carried out. If your previous MOT has already expired you will not be able to take the vehicle away from our workshop until it has a new, valid MOT certificate.

How Much Does an MOT Cost?

We charge £49 for a Class 4 MOT test. Many garages charge less but often look for reasons to fail a vehicle’s MOT test so they can then carry out the required remedial work, making up the money lost by charging less for the MOT.
