What’s included in your service depends on what service level we are carrying out and whether your vehicle is still within its manufacturer warranty.
But our Interim service for post-warranty servicing, as a base level, includes the following:
The next level up from Interim is our Full service, which includes the above, plus:
Our workshop has dealer diagnostic equipment for most makes and models, plus, we use only genuine OE or manufacturer parts, and the correct Castrol oil for your vehicle, as standard.
Many garages buy barrels of standard engine oil and use that in every car or van they service, but at Stoney Cross Garage we know that isn’t the right thing to do. Using the correct oil for a specific vehicle increases reliability, engine economy, and the life expectancy of many of the engine component parts.
When you choose Stoney Cross Garage for your vehicle service for the first time, we will discuss its previous service history (if known) with you in depth.
If your car or van is still within its manufacturer warranty we will continue to follow the manufacturer servicing schedule precisely thereby preserving any remaining warranty, exactly as a main dealer would.
If your car or van has passed through its manufacturer warranty period, we will discuss the options now available to you, which are:
Broadly speaking, if you choose not to continue with the manufacturer servicing schedule, we recommend alternating our Full and Interim services every 12/24 months if you do average annual mileage (10-12,000 miles). If you do significantly more or less than the average, we will tailor a servicing schedule for your vehicle individually.
When a vehicle is first registered and sold by the manufacturer it will have a warranty period. This can be between three and seven years in length. During this time the vehicle must be serviced exactly as the manufacturer dictates in order to keep the warranty intact. So, if your vehicle is within this period it will likely have a service indicator light on the dashboard telling you a service is required.
Older cars, no longer in manufacturer warranty, generally need an annual service, the extent of which is usually determined by the number of miles driven annually. Average annual mileage is considered to be c10/12,000 miles and we recommend alternating our Full and Interim post-warranty servicing levels every 12/24 months for cars and vans doing this kind of mileage.
For higher-than-average mileage vehicles, we would recommend an Interim service every six months and a Full service every 12 months. If you’re unsure what service your vehicle needs, please call or pop in; we’re always delighted to advise and provide you with a no-obligation estimate.
If you miss a service while your car or van is in its manufacturer warranty period that warranty will be invalidated. This means that the cost of rectifying any problems that occur for the remaining warranty period will not be covered by the manufacturer.
A missed service for a vehicle either in or out of warranty will likely result in less-than-optimum performance and fuel economy, shorten the life of component parts, and ultimately affect the sale value when you wish to change vehicles.
No. This used to be the case but laws were changed in 2003 to allow independent garages such as Stoney Cross Garage to service vehicles under warranty without invalidating the manufacturer warranty. We use only genuine, approved, parts and follow the manufacturer servicing schedule to the letter. The only difference is the amount of money you will save using us, and the far more personal service you will receive.
Yes, because arguably vehicles that do very little mileage are more prone to problems than those that do average or higher than average mileage. Oil which sits for days/weeks and an engine which only does short journeys will benefit greatly from an annual service, ensuring your car or van is always in tip-top condition when you do need to use it.
OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer and refers to parts which have been obtained directly from your vehicle’s manufacturer or a company who sells those manufacturer parts as a third party. This label means any OE/OEM parts fitted to your car will last and perform exactly as the parts used by the manufacturer when your vehicle was built.
We hope you’ve found the above information useful and if you have any other questions about car or van servicing at Stoney Cross Garage, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
